Vins El Cep

Vins El Cep

Espiells, Spain

Founded in 1980 by the union of four families, Vins El Cep is a testament to collaborative winemaking and sustainable agriculture. Each family brings its unique heritage and vineyard to the partnership, collectively nurturing over 190 hectares of vineyard land in Catalonia, each parcel steeped in history and tradition.

The Carreras family's Can Prats estate, developed since 1393, spans 60 hectares in Sant Llorenç d’Hortons, flourishing with traditional varieties like Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada, Pinot Noir, and Tempranillo. This estate has seen continuous viticulture since its consolidation in the 16th century by Jaume Prats.

The Masana family's Can Castany, established in 1448, is renowned for its deep-rooted vines, some dating back to 1928. Here, organic practices prevail across 50 hectares, cultivating a rich variety of grapes including Chardonnay, Muscat, and Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside traditional local varieties.

Pere Parera of the Parera family, a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture in Cava, manages the Can Miquel de les Planes estate. Since adopting biodynamic practices in 2003, the 30-hectare estate has flourished, producing vibrant and expressive wines from its meticulously cared-for vines.

Completing the quartet, the Esteve family oversees Can Simon, a vineyard first established in 1501. Today, this 50-hectare estate produces a diverse range of wines from grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, cultivated with a commitment to both tradition and innovation.

Together, these families and their historic estates make Vins El Cep a distinguished name in wine, dedicated to ecological stewardship and the production of wines that are as respectful to the environment as they are delightful to the palate.
